Alex Mutz is the director of bands at Sam L. Martin Middle School in Austin, TX where he also serves as the electives department chair and director of fine arts. He received his bachelor's in music Ed. with an emphasis in euphonium from Texas A&M University Kingsville in Kingsville, TX in 2013 where he studied under Dr. Yutaka Kono, Dr. Justin Benavidez, and Dr. Steven Mead from the Royal Northern College of Music. While at TAMU-Kingsville Mr. Mutz was section leader in the Javelina Marching Band and principal euphonium in both the tuba-euphonium studio and the TAMUK wind symphony. Mr. Mutz was also a member of Sigma Lambda Beta international fraternity inc. Currently Mr. Mutz is a graduate student at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York where he is working towards his master's in music Ed. and studying euphonium under Dr. Mark Kellogg

Mr. Mutz has a very strong background in marching music, having worked with various programs from high schools to drum corps throughout the U.S. and Europe as a clinician and drill writer. As a performer he spent one summer (2007) with the Crossmen, two summers with the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps (2009,2010) winning back-to-back DCI championships, and 3 summers currently (2011,2015,2018) with Jubal from Dordrecht the Netherlands winning the DCI international class championship in 2015 and 2018, and the Drum Corps Europe championship in 2018. Mr. Mutz won the DCI individual euphonium championship in the over 22 class in 2021 and is the reigning champion.

In his spare time Mr. Mutz is an avid boxing fan and traveler and enjoys watching movies. In addition to teaching music he has also done several roles as an actor and has had minor appearances in various short films and movies.
