History of the Martin Middle School Family Resource Center

Campus-Based Support Roots & Partnership Origins

The Family Resource Center (FRC) at Martin Middle School is part of a network of campus-based centers launched in collaboration between Austin ISD and Austin Voices for Education and Youth (AVEY). This model began with a pilot at Webb Middle School in 2007, evolving into a widespread system by 2020 that served some of the district’s most critical school communities Austin ISD.

Mission & Collaborative Framework

The overarching mission of AISD’s Family Resource Centers is to foster well-being, self-sufficiency, and family engagement. FRCs are strategically placed to support schools in addressing basic needs and improving family–school connections Austin ISDaustinvoices.org. Martin Middle School’s FRC plays a critical part in this network, serving Martin MS, Allison ES, and Govalle ES Austin ISD.

Services Offered at Martin’s Family Resource Center

The Family Resource Center at Martin Middle School provides wraparound support for students and families, connecting them with resources that promote stability, health, and academic success. Services include:

  • Case management and individualized family support
     
  • Assistance meeting basic needs, including food, clothing, school supplies, hygiene products, and emergency housing referrals
     
  • Support with applications for community services such as health care, employment assistance, and utility assistance (including Plus 1 electric bill support through Austin Energy, available exclusively to Martin families)
     
  • Referrals to trusted community partner organizations
     
  • Parent education and engagement opportunities, including workshops, classes, and “Parent Coffees” with campus leadership
     
  • Opportunities to get involved in school life through volunteering and the PTA
     

The center is located in Room 303 and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Impact on the Community

The structure and mission of FRCs—including Martin’s—are designed to reduce student mobility, improve attendance, and foster stronger family engagement.
