NOT MUCH!!  We have fundraisers that help defer costs and we work with all financial situations.  We want to give every child the best opportunity possible.  

There is a $30 Band Fee due once a school year to pay for music, method books, maintenance, and instrument rental. Students are encouraged to Rent To Own an instrument from Straight Music.  

Your child has the opportunity of being a part of an outstanding Band Program at Martin.  It has been proven that playing a musical instrument raises I.Q., reading, and math abilities.  It is a great “family” to which a student can “belong”.  It also builds community pride and personal confidence.

The short answer is No! The method books used in beginner band are designed for the learning of all students, regardless of previous musical training. We teach the fundamentals of reading music as well as the fundamentals of playing an instrument.

Yes! If it fits on your schedule, we can make it work. There are many middle school students who are in band, athletics, and other classes such as choir, theater, art, Spanish, etc. In 7th and 8th grade, the school administration, coaches, classroom teachers, and band directors work together to avoid conflicts in scheduling. We have current Martin Band members who are also in football, volleyball, basketball, cross country, track, and many other extra-curricular activities and organizations.

Your will need to choose Band 1 as an elective class.  If your child wants to join the band in the spring semester, contact a band director and the counselors at Martin to work something out! We will help pick the instrument that will provide the most success for your child.  We will take instrument choices on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Percussion fills up fast.*
