Beginning Band

Beginning band is the first opportunity students have to join our program.  No prior musical experience is needed.  We teach our students how to play an instrument and everything they need to know about the fundamentals of music.  The beginning band is composed of mostly 6th grade students who are learning to play an instrument for the first time.  Beginning band classes meet every day in like-instrument classes.   Students will perform together as one group at the winter and spring concerts.

Symphonic Band

The Symphonic Band is made up of 7/8th graders.  They meet everyday as a full band.  Students are required to attend one sectional per week to help them learn their music and to work on fundamentals.  The Symphonic Band performs at a winter, pre-UIL and spring concert.  The Symphonic Band works hard on fundamentals.  Students are encouraged to participate in Solo and Ensemble Contest.  All students are encouraged to take private lessons.

Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble is made up of 7/8th graders and is the top performing group at Martin.  They meet everyday as a full band.  Students are required to attend one sectional per week to help them learn their music and to work on fundamentals.   The Wind Ensemble performs at a winter and spring concert and attends UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest as well as an additional pre-UIL concert in the spring.  Students are highly encouraged to participate in All Region tryouts in November and required to participate in the Solo and Ensemble Contest in the spring.  All students are encouraged to take private lessons.
